St Alphege's Youth SVP
seeking to make life more pleasant for others
2009

The young members of the Youth SVP of Our Lady & St Alphege were busy as usual at Easter. In accordance with the principles of SVP founder Frederic Ozanam, the members seek to make life more pleasant for others less fortunate, devoting an hour of their week during term time.

Once a fortnight they lend their eyes, ears and hands to help people in a residential home play bingo - without their help they wouldn't be able to. On alternate weeks they do a variety of things around the parish, such as carol singing to the housebound at Christmas and making Easter cards for them at Easter. Each term they take a turn at Church cleaning, which gives one of the more senior members a rest. Among their other activities they help the homeless by sewing together a blanket to keep them warm. Looking further afield, in the past they prepared and sent off the Parish's religious Christmas cards to Father Leo Dolan in Brazil. Father Leo distributed them among some of the 3000 prisoners he looked after. Each member wrote a letter to accompany the cards. Now they are going to find new ways to help Father Leo in his new mission.

The photos show the Youth SVP members making Easter cards and, together with SVP members, delivering the cards and Easter gifts of eggs and plants to some housebound parishioners.
